About Mike Piquette
Sports Energy News is a tabloid newspaper that is published monthly by well-known sports personality Mike Piquette. Mike first came up with the idea of a local sports newspaper about in 1998 while volunteering in minor hockey and working as business manager for the Cornwall Colts. Initially the plan was to build a hockey-specific paper, but with so many other things happening twelve months of the year, it was decided to open it up to sports in general.
"Over the last several years, I've come across many great stories about local athletes and I have always thought - that story should be told," said Mike Piquette. "I started talking to Terry Tinkess, who heads up the Journalism Program at St. Lawrence College, and the idea quickly became reality."
"The stories are not necessarily mainstream stories that would typically be covered by the mainstream media," says Mike Piquette. "Our focus is on the people involved in sports – the athletes, the coaches, the people who work behind the scenes."
About 10,000 copies of the newspaper are distributed each month in Cornwall and throughout SD&G, from Morrisburg to Lancaster.
