        Fishin’ with Steve Bean

        By Molly Kett

          57-year-old Steve Bean, born in
        Montreal, Quebec and currently living
in Long Sault, is an avid local fisherman.
He and his wife, Pamela Bean have a son,
Dante. Bean is currently the Vice President
of Long-Term Care and Alternate Care at
Best Buy Medical Supplies. Bean grew
up playing many sports, like competitive
hockey, and he played tennis for the better
part of his days as a young adult.
Bean also spent most summers at
his cottage in the Laurentians north of
Montreal. This is where his passion for
fishing and the outdoors began. In fact, Photo Submitted
his earliest fishing memory dates back to
when he was just five years old, going to
the cottage with his life jacket on, ready
to fish off the rocks for small mouth bass.
“My passion has always been fishing,
and for the last 15 years I have fished
        competitively in the summer months,”
said Bean. “I am also currently involved in
the Fishing in the Renegade Bass Series.
The beauty about fishing is not knowing if
and when your next bite will come!”

When reflecting on his favourite fishing
memories, Bean says a few come to mind.

“Netting two fish for 11 pounds in the
same net at a classic event would be one
for sure and winning on St. Francis this
year on our home water is another,” said
        Bean.

His favourite place to fish is Lake St.
Francis by a long shot, he says. One of
his most notable catches was on Lake St.
        Francis a 6.15-pound smallie. However,
Bean also has his sights on fishing Lake
Okeechobee, where he says you can easily
        catch ten-pound bass.
What would Bean tell someone to
convince them to give fishing a try?
“It’s one of the greatest ways in the
world to get away from life’s stressors,”
        said Bean. Photo Submitted
