Cornwall Prowlers Season Update

Sspoke with Mitch Gagne to
get an update about the Prowlers
season so far. According to
Gagne, it’s so far good so far.
“We just hit he halfway mark
recently, and we are starting to gel
more and more each game,” said
Gagne. “Players at the beginning
were a bit out of shape physically
and it led to a few injuries. We got
through those first 6 to 8 weeks
with some challenges, but we are
looking good now.”
The team has an excellent
January ahead, with four out of
five games taking place at the
Benson Centre. There’s nothing
like a home game to keep the
team motivated for a win!

younger new players making
great progress and the return of are more wins in their future.

Dylan Stacey is a great addition
to our team,” said Gagne. “If the
Prowlers stay healthy, I feel we
will be pushing for the top spot
in the league. Now, we are sitting
only a few points out of first place
in the East division and are ready
to make a good run for the cup
again.”

Well, 2021 was a year that I’m
glad is now history!
Diagnosed with stage 4 does not discriminate based on
Metastatic - Lung Adenocarcinoma
on January 2nd of 2021, I began a
journey I didn’t think I’d have until
much later in life (and ironically,
I’ve never smoked a day!). My
knees have buckled twice in my
lifetime - when I was informed
about the passing of my mother,
and when I was given my diagnosis.
Treatments, scans, biopsies etc.,
have been arduous. They began
once every three weeks but are now
only once every four weeks until
mid-2023.
I’ve been told by my oncology
team, led by the amazing Dr. Scott
Laurie, that I have the best of a
bad diagnosis and during a two-
year treatment plan, combined with
continuous scans every 3-6 months
after that, I can fight this! Without
making promises, Dr. Laurie has
told me I could live another 25-
30 years and very well pass away
from something other than my lung
cancer (again, no guarantees!).

The good side of 2021, since
the diagnosis, is that I’ve met,
reconnected, and gotten to know
some amazing people through
the start of this journey. My now
16-year-old daughter continues to
be my rock and raison d’être. The
support network I’ve been blessed
with is truly amazing!
Thanks to my support network,
we’ve been able to form and continue
Team Murphy. Team Murphy
assists local families with gas cards,
food gift certificates, and home
assist devices as cancer patients
endure out-of-town treatment. And
just like cancer, Team Murphy
age. We’ve been fortunate to assist
locals aged 3 to 93 by easing the
financial burden of their treatment
to and from Ottawa, Kingston, and
Toronto. We’ve had community
groups and local businesses support
the Team Murphy initiative with
third party fundraisers. More proof
that Cornwall and area residents
are amazing when it comes to
helping each other in times of

My bucket list will be attended
to sooner rather than later. Why put
off to tomorrow what could be done
today? - a motto I now embrace.
As the New Year dawns upon
us, allow me to wish my family,
friends, and supporters all the
best in 2022. Plan to make 2022
unforgettable by enjoying each day
as much as possible!
