Lily Cockings
Age: 7
Hometown: Williamstown by way of St. Lazare, QC
School: Williamstown Public
Grade: 2 - in September
August’s Athlete of the Month is Williamstown’s Lily
Cockings. Lily is an avid soccer player, and she loves highland
dancing.
Lily is in her second season of soccer with the Glengarry Soccer League. “My favourite thing is
I get to play defender,” Lily says. “I’m not so good at scoring goals, but I like to clear the ball.”
Lily has set a few objectives for herself this summer. “My goals are to make new friends and
teammates, and to win some games,” she explains. She feels that her most notable accomplishment
this season so far has been captaining her team for the first time. As for the sport itself, Lily says,
“It is a good way to bring everyone together, to make new friends, and get fit and outdoors all at
the same time. Plus, you get popsicles at the end of the game!”
Although she’s looking forward to starting grade 2, Lily has some long-term plans. “After high
school I would like to train to be a teacher,” she says. “I would like to teach gym.”
