Homemade Chili
Homemade Chili
By Roxanne Prevost
It’s that time of year we look for comfort food. This recipe fits right in. Good to take to a potluck
also. On a cold, rainy day, make this recipe and your house will smell wonderful.
Ingredients 1 680 ml can tomato sauce
2 lbs. ground beef 1 can kidney beans
2 tbsp olive oil 1 can mixed beans
1 yellow onion chopped 2 tbsp chili powder
1 green pepper chopped 2 tsp ground cumin
2 cloves garlic minced ½ tsp Cayenne pepper
1 796ml can diced tomatoes ¼ tsp red pepper flakes
1 796 ml can crushed tomatoes Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
1. Dice the onion and mince the garlic. Add both to a large pot with the olive oil and cook over
medium heat until they are soft and translucent.
2. Add ground beef to the pot and continue to sauté until beef is fully cooked.
3. Drain the beans and add to the pot along with the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and crushed
tomatoes. Photo Submitted
4. Next add the chili powder, cumin, cayenne, pepper flakes, and salt and pepper to taste.
5. Place a lid on the pot and allow it to simmer over low heat for 3 to 4 hours, stirring occasionally. The longer it simmers the better the flavour.
6. Give the chili one final taste, adjust the salt and seasoning if needed. Then serve hot with your favorite toppings.
7. Enjoy
