une’s An Eye for the Classics features Cornwall resident Joe Costa
Jand his customized 1981 GMC half-ton. It’s a truck Joe has owned
since he was 18. Joe has put decades of tender love and care into his
classic vehicle, and he’s had help. Joe has five brothers: Ed, Tony,
John, the late David, and Bob, all of whom are ‘car guys.’ Bob in
particular has helped Joe with his truck.
“I have been into cars and trucks since I was in grade seven,” Joe
says. “My dad had a square box Chevy truck, and I loved it.”
One of the features of Joe’s GMC is what’s under the hood. “The
motor is a 1969 Corvette 327, pushing close to 500 horsepower,”
he explains, “and the turbo 400 transmission is rebuilt with a 3 500
stall. The rear end is a Dodge 8/34 posi.” In his spare time, Joe enjoys
driving, and checking out car shows. He also enjoys the body styles
and the sounds of classic vehicles.
Like many of the drivers and owners featured in this column, Joe is
a proud member of the Cornwall Road Warriors Car Club. Don’t miss
