Stories And More About The People In Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry
The NFL recently kicked off its 124th season. No team has ever won three consecutive
Super Bowls. Will the Kansas City Chiefs achieve this feat, and what teams stand in their
way?
Jake Lapierre - Conditioning Coach - Prior to the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 1 kickoff against John Harbaugh’s Ravens,
the buzzword amongst network sports analysts was threepeat, threepeat, threepeat! Eight previous teams, all back-to-back
Super Bowl champions; the Packers (Super Bowls 1 and 2), Dolphins (7 and 8), Steelers (9 and 10, 13 and 14), SF 49rs (23 and
24), Cowboys (27 and 28), Broncos (32 and 33) and NE Patriots (38 and 39) have tried to threepeat, but each failed to go the
distance to reach that pinnacle Super Bowl Championship. So far through Weeks 1 and 2, Kansas City is 2-0 and off to a good
start but there are so many factors that can come into play at anytime, which makes this game so hard to predict. Are the Chiefs
on the road to a threepeat? I believe they’re on a “Mission Impossible”.
Jim Riddell - Seaway Karate Club -The oddsmakers have favoured the Kansas City Chiefs to win this year’s Super Bowl,
which would make them the first three-time winners in league history. Eight teams have won back-to-back Super Bowls,
but none of them were able to win a third. The Chiefs have a defense that has proven itself to be one of the best in the NFL,
seasoned veterans on offence with some young talent coming up. They also have last year’s Super Bowl MVP and the league’s
best quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs may have the best odds to win, but there are several other teams that are very
capable as well, and there may not be all that much separating any of them from the Chiefs. The Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions,
Baltimore Ravens, and the Philadelphia Eagles, along with a few others could get it done. The NFL is a tough competitive league, and a lot
of things can happen over the 17-game season. It’s hard enough for any team to win one Super Bowl let alone three in a row. I expect that on
February 9th in New Orleans, one of those other teams will emerge as the new Super Bowl champions.
Peter Collins - Sports Enthusiast - For as long as Andy Reid is coach and Patrick Mahomes is quarterback, the Chiefs should
be in the mix every year for the NFL championship. They are both in their prime for coaching and quarterbacking, so that
should enable them to be in contention for the next five to ten years. Coach Reid has become an expert strategist and has now
experienced the playoff success that evaded him in Philadelphia. Mahomes’ throwing and running talents mean that they are
never out of a game - he just knows how to win. The Kansas team’s main rivals will come from the AFC, as the NFC seems like
the weaker of the two conferences. The Eagles, Lions, and Forty-Niners seem like the NFC’s best chance to beat the Chiefs,
with young quarterbacks and solid teams in place. Kansas City’s main rivals are the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, and in a year or two, the
Houston Texans. All three of these teams could shut down the Chief’s road to the Super Bowl. Another factor that is critical in the NFL, is
injuries. Many teams’ chances fall by the wayside due to some unforeseen injury to a star player. In Mahomes’ case, he remains exceptionally
durable, missing less than a handful of games since he took over as a starter seven years ago. Look for the Chiefs to be the first Super Bowl
three-peaters!
