Stories And More About The People In Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry
There’s big trouble brewing in Big “D”. The Dallas Cowboys are playing five-hundred ball heading
into their bye week. They’ve lost three straight games at home to start the season and have been
outscored by a humiliating 66 points in the process. Will volatile owner Jerry Jones pull the plug
on coach Mike McCarthy before their week thirteen Thanksgiving Day game with the Giants?
Jake Lapierre - Conditioning Coach - While watching the Dallas Cowboys’ embarrassing 47/9 defeat to the Detroit Lions
(a game I thoroughly enjoyed by the way), on October 13th, which also happened to be Cowboys owner Jerry Jones 82nd
birthday, network cameras focused in on Mr. Jones face at the end of the game and the look on his face was very apparent. He
was a little agitated to say the least; hell, he looked like he was ready to fire everybody.
Will Jones pull the plug on coach Mike McCarthy before week thirteen?
I don’t believe he will pull the plug on McCarthy for a couple reasons. Generally, coaches are fired because players have reached
a point where they don’t have any confidence with the coaching approach and they’re no longer giving 100% but I don’t believe that’s the case
with the cowboys. Secondly, if McCarthy is gone who’s available to step in this far into the season and make any type of positive impact.
Once all the tantrums, shouting, and cursing in the front office are done with, hopefully the Cowboys can iron out some of the issues plaguing
them and salvage their season on a positive note.
Jim Riddell - Seaway Karate Club -With Week 7 of the NFL season being a bye week for the Dallas Cowboys head coach,
Mike McCarthy, has work to do. Dallas is presently sitting with a 3-3 record, having been outscored 168-126 so far. The last
home game was a 47-9 blowout by the Detroit Lions, with that 38 point deficit being the worst home loss in the Cowboys’
history at AT&T Stadium. That McCarthy is in the fifth and final season of his contract and has a 45-28 record, with his team
making the playoffs the past three seasons, Cowboys owner, President and General Manager, Jerry Jones, has stated that he is
not considering a coaching change, but did call the loss to the Lion’s “very concerning.” It sounds like Mike McCarthy is on a
short leash and if the Cowboys don’t turn their season around soon it’s unlikely that he will be there to finish it.
Peter Collins - Sports Enthusiast - Jerry Jones’ ownership of the Cowboys has been a mixed bag of both positive and negative
results. Since his proprietorship commenced in 1989 with a one-hundred- and forty-million-dollar purchase price, the team’s
value has grown to about ten billion dollars. A very nice return on his investment! While the team has won three Super Bowls
during his tenure as owner, the last thirty years have been as dry as a Texas panhandle dust bowl. Since 1998 the Cowboys
have won only four playoff games, that’s not what the octogenarian owner wants on his resume as the General Manager of the
Cowboys. The once patient Jones is concerned about his legacy, and with McCarthy’s contract due to expire at the end of this
season, time is running out for coach Mike. As long as this year’s version of the Cowboys stay relevant and in the playoff hunt McCarthy’s job
should be safe. But, with Bill Belichick waiting in the wings with his eight Super Bowl titles, next year looks to be in doubt for Mike McCarthy.
