As a child, she watched
her older cousin play
football and it inspired her to try the sport.
She began playing with the Wildcats in
mites and bantam, then played for the girls
Cumberland Panthers team for two seasons.
This season she will be back playing with the
girls’ Wildcats team.
“What I enjoy about football is that it’s
different and people often underestimate you
while you’re playing,” said Marissa.
A highlight from football for Marissa was
when her team won the championships last
season. She is looking forward to playing with
the Wildcats again this season and is dedicated
to becoming the best athlete she can be.
“I love all of my coaches,” said Marissa,
“they’ve become family.”

Teagan
Roy

Teagan Roy played a range
of positions from defensive
back to quarterback before
finding her spot as a wide
receiver.
She started playing football in
2022, as a ninth grader on her
school’s boys team. She played
with the South Gloucester Raiders U16 team, played for
Team Ontario’s women’s tackle football team for three
years, and played with the Cumberland Panthers. Teagan
is joining the Wildcats for the 2025 season for their first
women’s league team.
“Even though this is the first year playing with Wildcats I
feel like I’m already part of this organization. My brother
played for Wildcats for three years and I even volunteer
with the team during my brother’s season,” shared Teagan.
Last season, Teagan’s Team Ontario red team won gold
and was ranked number one in Canada. Teagan was also
named offensive player of the tournament.
“I love the sport so much and there are so many amazing
factors. The people, the coaches, and scoring touchdowns.
My ultimate favourite thing about the sport would be how
I feel like I am at home and feel like I belong when I play. It
is like nothing matters except for the game,” said Teagan.
“For girls who are hesitant to join women’s football—just
put yourself out there!”
