class and what actually takes place. The first element of every karate class is

safety. A good instructor structures the class to ensure that students have a

be aware of others training around them. There is nothing positive about injuries,

and most can be prevented. Each karate class is made up of several different

S S S S T L O C D N H C C W C S F Warm-up: This is the first stage of every martial arts class. It consists of gross
motor exercises that prepare the body for more strenuous work. The length varies

co-ordination drills. The intensity level gradually increases as the students

pads and shields. There are specific drills for improving each of the attributes –

speed, focus, power, timing, balance, coordination, agility, and endurance.

Kata: A kata is a predetermined series of movements, required for each belt level.
