local hockey player Isaac Barr
says he thinks this meant that ice
was in his blood from day one. At
just eight years old, Barr was an
intense fan with a good knowledge
of the game.
“I used to yell over the bench at
the guys and Mike Piquette (the
coach of his older brothers), would
laugh and sometimes say ‘listen to
him, he knows what he’s talking
about,’” says Barr.
He played Cornwall Minor
hockey for a short period, and then
played Seaway Valley in Atom
right through Bantam. At sixteen,
Barr was eligible to play Jr B and
made the Akwesasne Wolves.
“I always want to follow in my
brothers’ footsteps, Dillon and
Grant, as they played with the
wolves. Dillon had a great career
with them, scoring a 100 goals in
3 years,” says Barr. “I have always
been a forward, and on most of my
teams been amongst the leaders in
points. So as Akwesasne folded, I
was able to choose where I wanted
to go and chose Winchester.”
