Fight I was Ever In: Matthew Barnaby (Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins,
Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago
Blackhawks and the Dallas Stars) vs Garth Snow (Quebec Nordiques, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh
Penguins).”
“Barnaby had been a thorn in Snow’s side all night. I’ll never forget Rochester dumping the puck down the ice toward Snow
with about 6 seconds left on the ice. Barnaby was charging frantically. I knew he was going to lay him [Snow] out. At the
last second, Barnaby side stepped to avoid Snow. At the same time Garth threw a blocker and took Barnaby in the head.
“All hell broke loose as the final buzzer sounded. I had a hold of Barnaby for the entire time as the two went at it. I’ll never CALL
forget the NHL supervisor coming into the room to congratulate me for staying with him. But he did say I looked like a
T-shirt on a clothes line on the windiest day of the year. NOW
“Two years ago, I was refereeing a charity game at the Complex that Barnaby was playing in. I skated over to the bench
before the puck drop and said to him, “You don’t know me, but the last time I saw you in this building I had a hold of you to book or
down in that corner (I pointed towards the Colts’ dressing room). He immediately recalled that fight with Garth Snow like
it had happened 15 minutes before! We had a good laugh.” more info
