Weightlifting National Title for Thorin Gault

Championship for Thorin Gault

because he competed in a lower
weight class.
Last year, the Cornwall
Weightlifting Club athlete won in
the under 105 kg category. This year
he took home gold in the men’s over
45 years old, under 89 kg weight
class. He was successful in five of six
attempts with a top snatch of 105 kg
and clean and jerk of 131 kg for a 236
kg total. He won his category by 35
kg.
“I was a bit nervous about how
losing the weight was going to affect
my strength, so I was very conservative
in choosing my attempts,” expressed

June’s Athlete of the Month, Sam Pilon,
plays hockey for the Seaway Valley AA
Major Atom Rapids. Sam is a strong
forward who enjoys meeting new people and spending time with
friends, which is something he finds sports lets him accomplish.
“Being encouraging and being positive are important and is what
makes you a great teammate,” he says.
Sam, who also plays baseball, enjoys gym and math. His goal is to
become a professional athlete in either of his chosen sports.
