Spotlight on Golf: Les Gilmour at the Upper Canada

The featured Upper Canada Golf Course member for September is Les
Gilmour. “I enjoy practising the game just as much as playing a round. I find
it’s my ‘go to’ to unwind after a day of work,” he says. Les is a professional
truck driver. “I was a long-haul driver, but now I drive local. This allows me
time for golf,” he says.

Les has been a member at Upper Canada for two years, ever since he moved
to the area from Iroquois. “Being a new member, I was welcomed by staff
and members,” he says. Les enjoys the course because it’s not hard to in get
a round, and he finds it a very challenging course to play. “My low round is a
75, and I’m still trying to better that score,” he says.
An avid golfer, Les says, “I try to get in 5 rounds a week. I like golf because
it is a single sport. I control my round.” When it comes to memories of his
favourite sport, Les has several from which to choose. “I guess my favourite Photo Submitted
memories of the game are the intersectional and valley league teams I have
been part of. There’s always a story to every one of them,” he says.
