U17 Seaway Valley Blazers See Success at the Gael’s Cup
By Molly Kett
his July, the U17 girls’ Seaway
TValley Blazers Team travelled to
Kingston, Ontario to compete in the
Gael’s Cup.
The girls worked so hard and saw
incredible success at this tournament.
The team went undefeated the whole
weekend against teams from Barrie,
Lakeshore, and Newmarket. They
managed to come home with the
gold, and according to Coach Laura
Contant, they also came home with
“a whole lot of smiles.”
This team plays weekly in the
East Region Soccer League and is
currently sitting in first place in their
U17/18 Regional division.
“It’s all about communication and
teamwork,” says Contant. “The
majority of this team have been
playing together since U10. They
work hard, practice twice a week,
and are all very dedicated. They are
a great bunch of girls and they all get
along very well off the pitch too.”

MVP of the Month
Émile Beaulieu
Age: 11 Grade: 6
Hometown: Cornwall
School: Marie Tanguay
This month’s most valuable player is Émile
Beaulieu. Émile is a talented goaltender and
defenceman with the Seaway Valley Soccer
Club, U12 “Belgium” squad.
“Émile is a dedicated and talented athlete
who also plays hockey and soccer with the
Coyotes,” says his coach Jesse Ferguson. “He’s a leader among his
teammates in terms of focus and dedication. He needs very little coaching,
as he knows what to do, especially in the positions of goalie and defence.
Those positions often don’t get as much glory as forward, but Émile’s
great defensive work is extremely valuable to team Belgium.”
