Q&A Hi J.R. My wife and I both working parents with 3 great kids involved in sports. One is a peewee-aged player who excels in hockey, and we
are told he has lots of potential. Our problem is we don’t think we can afford to pay for his involvement in hockey if he plays at the higher
levels as he gets older. Should we steer him toward other, less expensive sports now, even though he loves the game?
ANSWER:
Great question! There are always options. When we don’t have the resources, we get resourceful. If it is something that really means a lot,
then there is always a way to make it work. Depending on the situation, playing a lower level of hockey is not out of the question. There
are also leagues that don’t cost a much to play in, or different scholarships that are available depending on the local AA and AAA clubs.
Be sure to look into those. If your kids are fully committed and are willing to put the time and energy in, and are even make some sacri-
fices, then there is always a way to make it work!
