Kyle Handy: Always Show Up and Work Hard

Flineman Kyle Handy graduated from
Bishops University in Lennoxville, Quebec
this spring with a degree in Environmental
studies and a minor in Sports Studies. So
now that his academic career is behind
him, where is Handy going to go? Back to
Bishops!
Handy was asked to return to Bishops as
an assistant coach this year. “I had a good
rapport with my Bishop’s coaches and
knew that if playing in the CFL (Canadian
Football League) didn’t work out that they
would provide a coaching opportunity,”
said Handy. “I am an assistant offensive
line coach working directly with this unit
only.”
Handy had a five-year playing career
with The Bishop’s Gaiters while he was
completing his post secondary education.
Football, however, has been a part of his
life for quite some time. He began his career
in football at General Vanier Secondary
School. “When I was in grade 10 at GVSS,
Rod Simpson, who is now the head of the
Cornwall Wildcats, asked me to come out
to play. I was influenced by him and some

Handy has some experience coaching with
the Wildcats. “My first coaching experience
began this past January when I got involved
with the Wildcats OVFL (Ontario Varsity
Football League) team.” He has hopes of
joining the CFL and continuing a career in
football. “I am hoping to pursue a career
in football, hopefully continuing to coach
as long as possible. If that doesn’t work
out, then I will have my degree to fall back
on.”
Handy has had a successful career so far
and feels it is due to his attitude both on
and off the field. “I show up and work hard
at whatever task is in front of me,” he said.
