Cornwall Figure Skater’s Compete in Brockville

ornwall’s figure skaters jumped, spun, and skated
Ctheir way to success on January 17 and 18 at the
Brockville Interclub Competition.
The weekend competition saw twenty-seven talented
athletes from the Cornwall Figure Skating Club compete
against several teams from the area, including Char-
Lan, Smith Falls, Kemptville, and Long Sault.
Cornwall’s Junior Development skaters performed
well in CanSkate stages 3, 4, 5, and 6, while the Junior
and Senior Star skaters enjoyed similar success in
Pre-Preliminary, Preliminary, and Junior Bronze-level
events.
The skaters’ hard work paid off on the podium, where

they placed from first to seventh.

“They did terrific,” says Katrina Grant, who accompanied
the girls as a coach. She says the weekend was a clear
demonstration of “just how enthusiastic the girls are”
and how well they work together as a team.
But the Brockville Interclub Competition wasn’t
important solely for the scores. For some skaters, it
was their first time competing.

“It was a first for many, but it’s more a team competition,
so they enjoyed it,” says Grant.

She says figure skating can be both physically and
mentally challenging. Her skaters work hard, practicing
five and a half hours a week.
