Pommier Jewellers presents
MOM of the month
Hailey Dickson
February’s Mom of the Month is part
of a family with very strong ties to both
sports and education in Cornwall. Hailey
Dickson (nee Newman) is the daughter of
the late Les Newman. Les is remembered
by many as a respected Saint Lawrence
High School physical education teacher
and coach. FPO
Hailey and husband Keith are both heavily
involved in athletics at Saint Joseph’s
Catholic High School, where they teach
and coach. Their children, Ella and Owen, are both multi-sport athletes and train
with Gibbs Hockey.
When she’s not filling her role as a trainer with the Panthers girls’ hockey club,
Hailey is busy running mom’s taxi, shuttling her daughter and her son to hockey,
spring hockey, soccer, or the gym. Ella plays with the peewee A Typhoons, and she
plays with the Blazers tier 1 U12 squad. Owen is a hockey player with the minor
atom A Rapids and a soccer player with the U10 boys Blazers. Both children play
spring hockey as well.
“It’s not just about playing sports,” Hailey says about her children’s athletic
commitments. “It’s about life lessons.” She likes the fact that sports is helping her
children learn to win and to lose with dignity, to handle pressure, and to be good
team mates.
