Sports Mom”
Tanya McDonald
Self-employed mom Tanya McDonald knows what it takes to
juggle time between work, family, and her many volunteering
commitments. This busy mama grew up in Smith Falls and now
makes her home in Martintown with her husband Scott, their two
kids Hudson and Hailey, and their new golden doodle.
Growing up, Tanya was a competitive equestrian, and Scott
played soccer, basketball, and volleyball, so it’s no surprise that
their kids have a great interest in sports. Tanya’s pair of busy
athletes includes Hudson (12) and Hailey (10). Both children
attend Iona Academy in St. Raphael’s where they will start grade
7 and 5 this fall.
Hudson is a hardworking and enthusiastic sportsman who plays
hockey for the Char-Lan Rebels Minor Hockey Association.
He’s a smart and passionate right-winger with a great physical
presence that makes him a threat at both ends of the ice. Hudson
– with his big smile and contagious laugh is a great asset to any
team he plays for and will be suiting up in the Peewee division
this fall. Hudson’s sports interests extend beyond the ice. He plays basketball and runs cross-country and
has fallen in love with skiing where he fulfills his need for speed.
Hailey is a dedicated member of the Cornwall Sea Lions in the Junior Elite division. She is committed to her
craft and spends over 8 hours in the pool each week and an additional two hours in the gym. Hailey betters
her performance each year. This tiny but mighty ten-year-old has reached regionals twice and made it to
the highly competitive provincial “festivals” for thirteen-year-olds and under. This past season she was the
only 10-year-old girl on the blocks! Always looking to improve, Hailey has her sights set on making it to the
next level this season: “Junior Champs”. When she’s not in the pool, Hailey spends her time running cross-
country and playing soccer in the Glengarry Soccer League with the U10 girls.
Tanya herself logs many of hours with the Cornwall Sea Lions. She’s been on the executive for three years
and has held the very busy position of treasurer for the last two seasons. Although Tanya is on the road all
year, between arenas, pools, and schools, she says she’s committed to making sports a priority for her kids.
Tanya knows sports helps to build character and teaches her kids how to celebrate wins and accept losses.
She’s glad that these lessons will help her children succeed in life.
Scheduling Hudson’s and Hailey’s games, practices and tournaments sure makes life busy, but Tanya loves
to watch her children in action and wouldn’t have it any other way.
