They say time flies when you’re having fun.
Boston Red Sox Well, Cornwall’s sports community
must’ve had a lot of fun over the past

C H R I S T I A N V A Z Q U E Z G M C W we can look back and be amazed
at some of the accomplishments

O D B Z M O O K I E B E T T S E D B O L Let’s start with the
rejuvenation of boxing in

Cornwall. Thanks to the
E D X A B U J B Y B N K L V E I H I A S work of Jorge Luis and his
R C N T R K Q M R I T A R T X J T A C P volunteers, Champs Boxing
Club has become the club of

Luis (more on him in a moment), the “little club

The most accomplished boxer to ever come from Eastern

Ontario is Tony Luis. He turned pro in 2008, and between 2010
E A E R I R D E U N C K G T T S A N L N and the present he went 21-3 with 7 KOs, only to improve his
H L T M D E Z E A C J T C U K C C K E U professional record to 29-3 with 10 KOs. Luis won no less than
four championship belts during the decade and he helped solidify
V E B N E Z G S K J R T I Q E H E U Y N Cornwall as a destination for pro boxing! We’re looking forward
U D A V I D P R I C E A O M J Z T H J E to the next decade.
M B G X R C R A I G K I M B R E L Q R Z At the rinks, we saw the Benson Centre grow to become a premier
facility for minor hockey tournaments. Visiting teams routinely
J O E K E L L Y R I C K P O R C E L L O espouse how they enjoy playing at Cornwall’s crown jewel.
ANDREW BENINTENDI HECTOR VELAZQUEZ Throughout the past decade, Cornwall became home to three
EDUARDO NUNEZ RICK PORCELLO senior hockey teams including the Cornwall River Kings, Cornwall
MATT BARNES CHRIS SALE Nationals, and the current senior team flag-bearer, the Cornwall
Prowlers. The teams have had varying degrees of success on and
BLAKE SWIHART JACKIE BRADLEY JR off the ice, with the Prowlers currently holding their own.
EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ SANDY LEON The Cornwall Colts started the decade by continuing to add
MITCH MORELAND CHRISTIAN VAZQUEZ to their legacy of excellence. Ian MacInnis led teams to back
BRIAN JOHNSON to back CCHL finals before winning the franchise’s fifth league
HANLEY RAMIREZ JD MARTINEZ title in 2012-13. Since that time, the Colts hosted the Fred Page
Cup (2015), the CJHL Top Prospects Game (2017), and back to
MOOKIE BETTS TZU WEI LIN back Eastern Canadian All-Star Challenge tournaments (2016
BROCK HOLT CRAIG KIMBREL and 2017). Junior A hockey will once again take center-stage in
HEATH HEMBREE JOE KELLY Cornwall in December 2020 with the World Junior A Challenge.
The list of Jacques Richard winners of the past decade matches
RAFAEL DEVERS DAVID PRICE up with any previous decade quite well.
CARSON SMITH MARCUS WALDEN The list of Cornwall and area’s top sports personality award
Harv’s Diner winners include: Jesse Winchester, Melissa Gilligan, Jakob
Loucks, Emily Vallance, Matthew Camm, Kelly McGillis, Jenna
THE BREAKFAST PLACE Flannigan, Rod Simpson, Christina Julien, and Bill Murphy.
That list includes hockey, soccer, football, kick boxing, curling,

“ Where Winning Teams Start Their Day”
just a two-sport town!!!
