The 106th Grey Cup has been held in Edmonton. Do you follow CFL football?

Do you think the CFL should expand into Halifax?

The CFL is one of the funkiest of all the professional sports leagues. That oddness is perpetuated when you

compare it to its big brother the NFL. That being said, it’s also one of the most interesting leagues, and many say
it’s more entertaining than its American counterpart. Firstly about half the Canadian roster must be made up of

Canadians, which is protectionism of the highest order. I’m surprised Trump didn’t make that part of the new US-
Mexico-Canada agreement, along with the other intellectual property provisions. Our field is bigger and our large

end zones lead to a much more exciting brand of football, specifically our red zone offence. The NFL is predictable
and suffers from a lack of inventiveness near the goal line. Of course our biggest idiosyncrasy revolves around

our odd number of teams. Nine teams makes for an unbalanced league, five teams in the west and four in the east.
This year the BC Lions came east to play in the eastern semi-final. If they would have beaten Hamilton and then

Ottawa they would have represented the east in the Grey Cup. Yes that’s correct, our western most province would
have represented eastern Canada in our national final. So it is with open arms that we should welcome Halifax to

the league. Even though the population is too small and there’s no proper stadium yet, we need Halifax to balance

the league. Yes Halifax with its population of 400,000 should be able to outdraw the Argos of Toronto with their
lousy 14,000 average attendance per game!

Jake Lapierre - Conditioning Coach -I became a CFL fan in 1968; growing up in Ottawa watching Russ Jackson, Vic
Washington, Moe Racine, and the home town team winning back-to-back championships had me hooked on the three-

down Canadian style of football. Grey Cup week is a great event regardless where it’s held. Fans from across the country
plan their trip to Grey Cup week well in advance regardless of where it’s being hosted. This year it’s Edmonton, next

year Calgary; Grey Cup Week is a great time for fans to celebrate a part of Canadian culture. Would I support a maritime
expansion team? Absolutely; bring it on…

game now and have not attended one since the Ottawa Rough Riders folded in 1996. There are only a few hurdles
left to clear and it looks likely that the Atlantic Schooners will be joining the CFL for the 2021 season. Maritime
Football has received over 5000 deposits on season’s tickets in the first two weeks of a ticket drive. The addition
of Halifax to the league will balance the conferences at five teams each, give some real meaning to the east/west
rivalry and the CFL will have a coast to coast presence.
