with Sandy Melchin and Frank Clark as crew.
H E S M E A C O A G W Y V T T H E O D I The weather was a bit challenging this spring,as it was generally cold with
some races taking place in pouring rain, others in very light winds. While in race
A T U O I R O I D E R L I E R A R B O S # 2 all boats encountered very strong winds with gusts up to 26 knots (40 km/h),
strong waves and very choppy waters. Cloud nine was knocked down by a gust but

coming out of the water during the heavy gusts
G U T E P H C E T M B I M S I Z T U I A Doug MacKenzie commented: “As the series continued, it became much more
competitive. New people who had never raced before joined and developed their

skills dramatically, resulting in close adreniline pumping finishes. New boats that
had never raced before such as Mar-soleil, Beethoven and Jenna’s Journey were not

only keeping up with the pact but often challenging for the lead. This spring, the

them. But that’s racing, some boats do better in some conditions than others.”

This course is challenging: no engine allowed, it takes sailors into the Seaway,

the skipper must navigate through narrow cuts, avoid shoals big lakers and this year,
cope with the current which is particularly strong due to high water levels upstream.

Stowaway story
ABRASIVE HASTEN RESCIND The talk of the town for the past two weeks at SYC is the discovery of a bird’s
