        Fishing with Liam Lavallee

         By Molly Kett

ne of the many great things about fishing is that
Oyou can any age to enjoy it. Just ask 11-year-
old Liam Lavallee, who just finished grade five at
Notre Dame School, located in Cornwall. With
summer out, Lavallee is ready to hit the water and
        see what he can catch.
“Fishing is my favourite summer sport that I
enjoy after ice hockey and ball hockey finish for
        the season,” says Lavallee.
Lavallee had an interest in fishing from a very
young age. His earliest fishing memory, though
not that long ago, took place while spending time
with his dad on the water.
When trying to recall his very first fishing
memory, Lavallee says it was “probably watching
[his] dad fish off the docks at [their] campground.
I remember sitting on his tackle box watching him
        fish.”
While this might be his earliest memory, he says
that he has plenty of other great fishing memories.
“I have lots of great fishing memories, most
involve my dad taking me and my friends out in
the boat to try different fishing slots along the St.
        Lawrence,” says Lavallee.
Though he’s still in his early years of fishing, he
still knows where he likes to fish best.

“One of my favourite places to fish would be
west of Hamilton Island,” says Lavallee. “You are
guaranteed to catch something in that area, even if
        it’s just weeds.”
                                                                                                                                          Photo Submitted
He also knows what he likes to catch best. He
says that he loves catching bass, “because they put share, he does note that his personal best catch catch some pickerel with his dad and his uncle in
        up a good fight.
took place this year. the St. Lawrence channel.
Lavallee says he hasn’t been in any official “I caught my finest pike this year in Alexandria
tournaments yet, but he’s looking forward to be What does Lavallee say when it comes to
with my buddies. It wasn’t a huge fish but it encouraging others to give fishing a try?
in two this summer in Lancaster at his family’s definitely gave me a struggle,” says Lavallee.

This summer, Lavallee is planning on spending Lavallee. “The best part is getting to eat what you

plenty of time fishing. Specifically, he’s hoping to catch.”
