My favourite sports memory, however, oc-
curred much closer to home. When I was a child,
my father Dave used to make a rink in our backyard on St. Michel Avenue. My
brother Shawn and I would spend countless hours on that ice with neighbours and
relatives playing shinny and firing shots at the net. More often than not we hit
the fence or the neighbour’s garage just beyond it. To this day, I can still see the
outline of the rink in my parent’s backyard when I visit.
Neither one of us made it very far in hockey, but that little rink provided me with
enough memories to last a lifetime. It also ignited my passion for the beautiful 711 Pitt Street, CORNWALL
game of hockey, something that lives on to this day.
Thanks Dad. Now how about we bring the rink back for the grandkids to enjoy? 613-932-2584
