Stuck in a puddle, in a sand trap.
No Problem!
It’s a free lift, no closer to the hole,
in an area of the trap without casual
water. If the trap is completely full,
it’s deemed “ground under repair”. IN
that case drop outside trap, no closer to
the hole, without penalty.
The early production of power golf carts began
in 1954, and by the early 1960’s, other companies were soon
involved. With the increased popularity of golf throughout North
America in the 1970’s, demand for gas and electric carts increased
tremendously. Carts are beneficial for those who can’t play without
riding for example, health reasons and also when there is extreme
heat.
TIP OF THE MONTH
Remember, the swing doesn’t end at impact. You have
to be swinging “THROUGH THE BALL” not at it.
Concentrate on accelerating through with full extension,
“down the Line”. Focus on getting your weight over to
your front foot, belt buckle facing the target. Hold that
high finish, in balance, until the ball lands.

Dropping from water in a bunker.
A player does get relief from
standing water in a sand bunker but
relief must be no closer to the hole
AND must stay within the confines
of the bunker. If there entire bunker
is under water and the only relief is
found outside of the hazard then a penalty
stroke must be added. Seem unfair? Perhaps
but remember the bunker is indeed a hazard - you’re not supposed
to be there in the first place - so relief, even if from water that isn’t
supposed to be there either, will cost you one stroke.
Carts - hmmm a bit tougher as it’s not a black and white answer and
very much a matter of opinion.
As a business owner carts = revenue and as golf courses are very
expensive to run and maintain any opportunity to generate revenue
will not be overlooked to the extent that some courses actually make
it mandatory. Another reason may be pace of play as golfers do tend
to play faster when riding. More players again = more revenue.
Two valid reasons for old courses to promote the use of carts.
However there certainly may be some non- business related reasons
for carts to be very popular. An aging population of players who,
with the aid of a cart, can continue to enjoy the game well into their
twilight years is a great thing.
